What is Oil made of?

Long ago, when tiny animals and plants in the seas died, they piled up on the seabed. Sand and mud collected on top of them and became rocks. Over millions of years, the weight of the rocks and the heat from the Earth turned the layer of dead animals and plants into oil.

Did you know that Oceans flow?

The water in the oceans is constantly moving. It moves in steady flows in particular directions. These streams of Ocean water are called currents. All Oceans have currents. Strong winds and the Earth's spin cause them. If you put a letter in a bottle and put the bottle in the ocean, the current may take it to another land.

How were the Oceans made?

The Oceans were made when the Earth was forming. Early on, the Earth was very hot and gases escaped from it. Steam was also released and it covered the planet with thick clouds. As the Earth cooled, rain fell from these clouds. Water collected in low-lying places on the Earth's surface. As more and more rain fell, the water got deeper and formed oceans.

Why does a Compass point North?

The inside of the Earth acts like a strong Magnet. One end of the Earth's magnet is near the North Pole. The other end is near the South Pole. A Compass has a needle that is a magnet. The Earth's magnet attracts the needle so that it always points North. If you held a compass near the North Pole, the N of the Compass would point straight to the ground.

Why does our hair turn grey?

Hair colour is determined by the COLOURING, or PIGMENT, that grows into the white hair at the roots. As people get older, less and less pigment is added and their hair turns Grey. Hair looks black when it contains a lot of the pigment melanin. When no melanin is added, the hair stays white.

Why do the bodies of girls and boys look different?

Boys grow up to be men and girls grow up to be women. Men and women have different reproductive organs that enable them to produce young together. That is why their bodies are different. For the same reason, the bodies of male and female animals are also different from each other.
